The Cooling Cycle

During the cooling mode, warm air from the room is drawn into the indoor unit where heat is absorbed and removed. The same air is now much cooler and is re circulated back into the room
The heat energy the has been removed in transferred by the refrigerant through the copper pipes to the outside unit where it is released. So your room is cool and comfortable even on the hottest summer day.

The Heating Cycle
During the heating mode the opposite occurs. The outdoor unit is made extremely cold (similar to a freezer) resulting in a larger temperature difference between the outdoor unit and the outside air. Heat is drawn from the outside air, transferred through the pipes by the refrigerant and released into the air flowing through the indoor unit, to increase the room temperature.
